On Anaconda Python on Linux, tkinter is just plain ugly. Here is an example on Linux Mint.

This is a known request to anaconda : ContinuumIO/anaconda-issues#6833 (comment)

Everything works, it's just ugly. A workaround is to use another distribution of Python (for example, the one from http://python.org)
