Can't open 90% of my .ep files

• Operating system: WIndows for workstations 10
• Pencil version: 3.1.1 & 2.0.5

I just tried to pen my pencil files. on multpiple machines using differnet versions. Not sure the last time i was able to open them but it must have been within the last year most likely before i upgraded to windows 10 on all my machines from windows 7 Pro. In any case, 90% of the over 60 files I have will not open. No error, justs open the pencil app and sits there. They are files located on an old My Cloud EX, a new QNAP NAS, an external SSD and directly on a computer's hard drive. The files are .ep files. Any help will be appreciated before I go postal.

Update, It seems I can open the files using ver 2.0.5 by going to FILE > OPEN instead of double-clicking the files. But ver 3.3.1 will not open these files, only about 5 or 6 of the 62 files i have.
