Description

I would like to improve support to the Red Hat distributions. Among the tasks:

  • to have an RPM package to release in every new version of espanso. There has been some works, but to my knowledge non were completed
    • this is partially solved by terrapkgs link. We should check if it's properly installable
  • there has been problems to build espanso in Fedora (missing a link to an issue)

Motivation

More than a few users asked for it, and we want to add it to the supported platforms!

Have you tried building it? Or would you like it?

I'm a windows and debian user, I can't help much more than pointing to a direction

As I partially stated in my comment in #1208 (comment), outside of users directly downloading and installing RPMs, there are alternatives for distribution, which include:

Thank you! That's really valuable info. I'm really in the mist for the red hat packaging 😆

Now that Terra has added Espanso as a package for Fedora 38 through Rawhide, while we don't have an RPM build to distribute on release, could I suggest adding instructions for installing on Fedora using Terra to the documentation? The process on a stock Fedora system would be to:

  1. Install Terra as a repository by following their documentation (literally one command)
  2. Install Espanso using DNF by running either:
    • On X11: sudo dnf install espanso-x11
    • On Wayland: sudo dnf install espanso-wayland
  3. Registering the service and starting it as usual, or starting unmanaged
