Steps to reproduce

  1. Fresh install of Element-iOS
  2. Try to sign in to homeserver using the URL of the Element-Web instance running on said server
  3. Cannot connect using said URL, yields error 404
  4. URL to the Synapse instance directly works as expected

Outcome

What did you expect?

Expected behavior is, that the URL of the Element-Web instance also works on Element-iOS. This is the way it also works in Element-Android.

What happened instead?

Error 404:

This way, users of the Element-Web client at the given domain have to use another domain on their iOS smartphone to connect to the Matrix server.

Providing a URL to Element Web doesn't work on Android.

If you mean you want to be able to type in a domain that has the /.well-known/matrix/client file, that would be #3902.
