Currently, by default, videos in series blocks are sorted from "newest to oldest". That makes sense for ongoing series (e.g. lectures) so to speak. Users are usually interested in the newest entry when visiting the page.

However, for series that are "done", the opposite order makes more sense. You would expect the first video to appear first.

I'm opening this issue to brainstorm whether Tobira can somehow be smart about the default in some way. Moderators can already change the order for blocks, and each user can change the order individually locally. So it's not too important. But if we have a nice idea, it could improve the UX.

Is this a solo brainstorm? If not: Based on what data does Tobira currently sort "newest to oldest" by default?

Input is always appreciated! On ... no data? I think the current default behavior just comes from imagining a lecture that's currently still going. Especially in combination with live videos and upcoming live videos. But as I said, I realize that this doesn't make sense for all series at all.

I think I would prioritise sorting mechanisms like this:

  1. Newest to oldest (anti-chronological) because it's best for lecture recordings to find the latest episode on top
  2. Oldest to newest (chronological) because it's best for events to find the welcome talk on top
  3. Customised to support the 0.1% where this is required

A-Z is not on that list, btw.
