Last year CUIT was happy to use the Pangeo images, but they rebuilt them themselves and hosted the Docker images separately. If I needed to make a change to the image, I would need to contact them, have them rebuild off of my new Dockerfiles etc.. Having CUIT host the Jupyterhub was great and if we go that route again, I would see if we can get them to pull the images directly from Pangeo. Not sure if they will do that.
Wow that's too bad. I'm surprised because it was a great success and they were good at it. I agree that the Pangeo Cloud is probably the best solution at this stage. I wonder if the funding stream that supported the CUIT Jupyterhubs on GCP is still in place. We may be able to attach some of this funding to the Pangeo ops.
It would be great if we could just use the environment defined by https://github.com/pangeo-data/pangeo-docker-images and https://github.com/pangeo-gallery/default-binder for all of this course. We need to check the content there.
