Attic Guard Rail ⚠️ #266
Comments
We were originally going to put glass there but very happy with you building it out of steel and painting glossy white (keen for it to be somewhat evident and reflect light appropriately. |
The attic landing is a bit of a mess because of the re-org but this is the frame I put together: Heading back down to the workshop to drill the mounting holes 🕳️ I will leave it fully prepped to be painted at a later date. But since we don’t have the paint in stock it’s unlikely I will be able to finish everything today. ⏳ |
@iteles I've done a test install: it’s nowhere near “finished” but is already functional; a child can’t fall through the gap. 👌 feedback requested. 🙏 |
This works well! I will get the space cleared up so that we can get our workman to paint it and clear up the walls on a dreary day 👌 |
I've done the work so far and can easily finish it with |
@iteles please provide some quick feedback on the design & functionality of the rail. |
At present there is a “gap” between the glass and the wall on the landing of the attic. It hasn’t been an issue because only adults aware of the gap have ascended to the attic. But as our children become increasingly mobile and curious to go upstairs, it could become a safety hazard/risk.⚠️
I propose custom-building a guard rail from mild steel to precisely fit the gap and thus secure it for all visitors to the attic. ✅
I expect this mini-project to take me 2h and is a perfect opportunity to practice my MIG (FCAW) welding dwyl/workshop#152 🧑🏭
@iteles any objections to me building this from steel? It should not detract too much from the existing glass as I can paint it white to match the frame of the attic staircase and blend into the white walls. ⚪️
