Describe the bug

Since recently (last month or so), opening YouTube videos in the duck player stopped working. YouTube is preventing the video from loading with the message "please sign in to verify you're not a robot", which sadly kind of renders the whole point of the duck player pointless.

How to Reproduce

Open any video on YouTube. I'm uncertain how reproducable this is, as it may depend on country and account.

Expected behavior

The YouTube video plays in the duck player.

Environment

- DDG App Version: 5.227.1
- Device: OnePlus 7t
- OS: OxygenOS 12.1

Thanks for the issue report. We’re aware that YouTube requires signing in when they suspect there is suspicious activity that can be caused by using a shared IP on a VPN. In an upcoming release we will be detecting this error state and providing better messaging on how to get around this (turning off VPN or watching the video directly on YouTube), but we don’t have any way to get around the root issue of YouTube blocking the video when their system flags the activity as suspicious

@CrisBarreiro CrisBarreiro closed this as not planned Won't fix, can't repro, duplicate, stale Mar 27, 2025
