As a "normal" programmer using DataBlocks, how do I make use of this class?
I would like to add custom attributes, would that be possible?

Generally, you don't. You use it if you're implementing a custom dataflow block, but that shouldn't happen very often.

I'm not sure what that means. Could you explain in more detail what you're trying to accomplish?

First off all, thanks for answering.
Knowing that it is only important in custom blocks is sufficient for me.

Concerning the why:
It is O.K. as it is, I was just wondering if I could improve my solution by using the header.
I have a network in place, performing several simple data operations. Multiple measurements are sent through the network. When a measurements ends, I send a special message type, meaning there is a message type class, boxing the value, plus some "kind" attribute.

I could recreate the whole network for each measurement, but it is not my favorite choice.

If I could use the message header for that extra information, I would not need the extra boxing.

So, there might be a override:
ITargetBlock.Post(T v, Dict<string, object> attributes) ?
or just ITargetBlock.Post(T v, string...)?
