I like your idea and heatmap thing. i like the annotation of your proposed app however, i think it is too many for swiping around and up-down. you may consider any shortcut for the app to recognize user's preferences and what type of news they want to get more.

With commenting and chatting i guess it should be censored.
Apart from that your team has a great idea. Good luck with the prototype!
