I think the idea of allowing people to post markers remotely is a slippery slope. People could just flood one area with irrelevant markers that would ruin the point of the experience. Even if they have to be within a certain km radius of the place they want to place the marker to be successful or when you place a marker it is put into a waiting for approval stage, it may be grayed or appear less significant on the map until 5 or so user verify that it is a legitimate marker and then it will become more prominent on the map.
