@codeisland/do-gooders if we're talking about the http://census.okfn.org/ main census, i'd vote to add RI munis to the main census and contact "census (at) okfn (dot) org" as to the cut-off. i couldn't find anywhere a minimum size or population was specified. |

I took a look at the site and couldn't find anything concrete. I'll check in with them via email. |
TIL: pasting that obfuscated email address from @SGoulet’s message above into a gmail "To" field resolves into a working address. Neato! Though I assume that this means the obfuscation is probably useless at this point. |
Hey everyone. I'm the former Code Islander (still in corda), now Sunlighter who received Alex's message to OKFN today. Sunlight is a partner on the US Cities Census and (at least theoretically) we help reply to inquiries like yours. I will be following up soon with a response via email after talking to Code for America/Open Knowledge, but in the meantime, I do not believe there are any minimum requirements (population or otherwise) for adding a municipality to the us cities census. I know this is something I was in favor of exploring when I lived in the ocean state (so I'm a bit biased) but personally I think this idea is super neat! As far as I am aware, RI would be the first state to have a comprehensive listing/ranking of all cities and towns. In fact if code island were able to put this together I'd be so excited about it that I'd love to cover on Sunlight's blog--either myself or by offering a guest blog to Code Island--in order to help share the idea of a comprehensive census with a national audience (who knows? maybe Delaware will follow suit!). |
Should we actually make an RI specific instance or should we just add our municipalities to the main census? I'm not sure what the cut-off is for inclusion on the national level city census.
