How to install Buzz in Linux #405
-
Hello, I was trying to install Buzz on Ubuntu 22.04.2. I have downloaded and extracted the file "Buzz-x.y.z-unix.tar.gz" but I don't know how to continue... many thanks. Joel |

@jowis What happens when you double-click to run the Buzz binary after extracting? |

I did this, and it runs, but I get the following when I try to download any of the models: "An error occurred while loading the Whisper model: [Errno 18] Invalid cross-device link: '/tmp/tmp9tljsg__' -> '/home/hardbrocklife/.cache/whisper/base.pt'.Please retry or check the application logs for more information." I am not proficient yet with building things from source. I tried the Poetry installation and it worked as intended, but I believe python updated and broke everything a week later and I am not proficient enough to fix it. I downloaded the Linux.zip, extracted it to home/buzz and ran the Buzz executable and that launches the application as intended. It just looks like the operation to download the models and transfer/process them to .cache/whisper/ as XXXX.pt is not working. Im all for following instructions if you care to give them. This application seems legit and Im excited to try it. Not a fan of sending personal or work related convos to an API. Specs: |

To add, the snap that faveoled created does the same thing, which makes me wonder if its a permissions thing?? Download failed: [Errno 18] Invalid cross-device link: '/tmp/tmp2guykkl4' -> '/home/hardbrocklife/snap/buzz-fo/common/.cache/base.pt' |

Just an FYI, it worked perfectly installing the .exe with wine. I spent hours trying to figure out why I kept getting this error: "[2023-06-12 11:21:01,094] transcriber.read_line:586 DEBUG -> whisper (stderr): torch/cuda/init.py:146: UserWarning: I installed and reinstalled the CUDA toolchain multiple times, with both pip and conda, trying multiple version and always got the same error. Out of curiosity I installed the .exe with wine and it works immediately right out of the box. I already had wine installed as the default handler of .exe, which is easy to do. I double clicked the exe, ran the installer, selected the video I wanted to transcribe, and it took maybe 3-5 min to transcribe a 50 minute work meeting. I dont know how I should feel about this lol. |

Also worth noting that Buzz is now on Snap store https://snapcraft.io/buzz and contribution section has notes on how to run the source version locally https://github.com/chidiwilliams/buzz/blob/main/CONTRIBUTING.md |
