Views and styling are difficult to override

When we separated our core functionality from the calagator.org app, all of the existing views and styling remained in place inside this gem. This was expedient for the work we were doing, but continues to make it difficult for anyone to create a new app with a different look and feel. I'd like to resolve this by transferring many of the front-end components to the other repo, and only retain semantic elements and components that we can build on top of here.

Any updates on this one or happy for someone to take this task over?
