Funny similarities beyond the name #1

Hi @kn0ll!

I'm Victor Duarte. I have been independently working on a new open source tool for the last 2 year, called Faugra (it means FAUna + GRAphql, plus it was intended as a pun with the word "Foie gras'').

The name sucks tbh, but it has been fine as a codename until I properly launch it with a better name.

That's why I have been talking to multiple developers in the JS community and, with their help, I might be able to free up the "brainy" handler in NPM. I will be able to create an organisation and publish my software as "@brainy/duck" in the NPM registry (and the upcoming different @brainy/** flavours/animals as well).

That's what has lead me into your work here, with the brainy.io project. And I was surprised with some of the similarities I have found! If you replace Backbone/REST by Fauna/Graphql, the description of your project would fit mine perfectly.

brainy allows you to write a Backbone Fauna client application without regard for the server. it creates the server for you.

when writing a front-end web any application with Backbone Graphql, you are typically targeting some remote api. for rapid prototyping this poses two problems. first, you are rewriting models that likely have very similar definitions on the server. secondly, of course, it requires you have an api.

brainy solves these problems by analyzing your Backbone models and collections resources Graphql types, and creating the api they require.

It's quite cool that we have both worked on such similar goals in a very different point in time, and I hope you still hold some appreciation for what we have been trying to achieve with our projects. That's why I would like to invite you to check Faugra and give it a try!

If you like what you see, I would then kindly ask you to consider how you could give us some help. Would it be possible for you to hand over the brainyio handler here in github for us? How much would you ask for the brainy.io domain (considering it's still yours)?

I am also open to suggestions of other alternative names, in case you are not willing to give up on the name you own.

I am aware that holding a username/handler and a domain name feels very personal and intimate, and that transferring it to someone else can be frustrating to say the least. But I would like to hear from you how that makes you feel, and, if possible, what I could do to make it easier on your side.

Please consider my request and let me know if there is anything I can do to help you make the adjustments needed. I am really looking forward to hearing your opinion on this matter.
