Errors upgrading wallet to V3 when encrypted with 2nd password #430
Comments
@jamaayy I've been able to remove the secondary password by messing around in the Chrome console. This is a bug report, not a support request. |
@cosborne83 I'm having this same issue. Second password required to upgrade and cannot access my wallet. @cosborne83 any tips on how to remove the second password from the legacy chrome extension? Every time I try to log in and verify through email I am redirected to the V3 wallet where I cannot enter my second password. |
Hey @cosborne83. If you can help me remove the second password like you did I will gladly pay you generously. I am a noob and not expecting any help from support.blockchain.com |
Yeah I have my phrase but it’s 15 words with the lagacy wallet. So I can’t do anything with it because there is no option to enter it in the v3 platform. It will only accept 12 words. And since I cannot even upgrade to the v3 without this “second password” I never set I am locket out. It’s been over a month since I put in a support ticket to Blockchain but they haven’t responded. |
Man if this helps I will be super suprised. Pretty much have given up hope of Blockchain helping me even though I would have had no problems before the v3 upgrade. Thanks for your time and I hope I can reward you. |
@bowmaximus1 you can recover a wallet with a 15-word recovery phrase here: https://blockchain.info/wallet/recover-wallet. Hope this helps! |
Yeah thanks for the response jamaayy but it only gives me my password, which I already have. If I had a 12 word phrase I could recover my wallet on the v3 platform no problem but the upgrade has left me hanging. The chrome extension you posted about would have also worked but I can no longer access it. I maintain I never set a “2nd password” that I am being asked for in order to upgrade/access my v3 wallet. I only set 2fa password that I have written down but does not work in that field. Since this has happened to me I’ve seen numerous people are having the same problem as myself and I’m starting to believe cosborne83 that this is a bug, and I’m hoping it is addressed because it’s really stressing me out! Haha. I hope that if Blockchain ever gets back to me they can give me access to the legacy wallet through a portal or something but it’s been over 5 weeks with no response. |
@bowmaximus1 - Even i am facing same from able to login with id and password and then immediately its asking for 2nd password. and all this started when blockchain was shifted from .info to .com struggling with same - I have Same issue , Did you find the solution or way to get Private key |
No I haven’t. Worst part is that I didn’t even enable a second password. I have my passwords written down and I used 2fa and not second password (they are different). I am still being asked for a “second password” and have been locked out since they changed to V2. They even changed the recovery mnemonic phrase to 12 words from 15 so I can’t use it to recover my wallet anymore. Support didn’t Help me solve the issue that blockchain created for me. I tried them a few times. |
i am struggling with same issue , i have everything but they are just
ignoring same.

this is caused by the bug in middle 2016. they are not compatible with new version wallet of blockchain. you could contact: BTC recover to decrypt the wallet offline if you still access to the email. there is good chance to recover it. good luck |
I accessed my wallet yesterday for the first time in almost 2 years and was required to upgrade to a V3 wallet. This required me to enter the second password, but it was repeatedly rejected.
It appears that it was incorrectly attempting to derive the 2nd encryption key using 5000 PBKDF rounds, whereas the wallet had been encrypted using a key derived with only 10 rounds. There seems to be code intended to handle older wallet data with 1 and 10 round PBKDF for the 2nd key, but it wasn't being hit.
