Table export show accommodate colspan

When an in-post table whose <td>s or <th>s containing a colspan is exported, they are written to Markdown in such a way that a column may be hidden from rendering.

<th style="text-align: left;" colspan="2">Presence</th>

Markdown apparently does not support colspan/rowspan.

The following table code...

The table, when rendered, therefore omits the important second column...

Describe the solution you'd like

Markdown allows use of HTML to help out with non-supported formatting.

However, it may be more useful, with an aim of achieving Markdown exclusivity, to find a Markdown-only solution. This may involve, where a colspan is detected, instead inserting the equivalent number of blank columns.
