I want to sync the Snapcast audio output with audio from a video player (in this case, I'm using Kodi). We can set an audio delay in the video player, so it's its job to do the sync, and the burden on Snapcast is smaller.
By default, Snapcast has a buffer of 1s. When syncing audio between clients, does Snapcast aim for a lag of exactly 1s, or does it float? If it is the latter, would it be hard to change it so that the lag is predictable when possible?
Another possible way around this would be for snapserver to send updates somewhere with the delay and have a script adjust the audio delay in the video player to let it sync (I've been using Home Assistant for this kind of thing. A plugin there would be an excellent way of making this easy to configure for other people).
I don't mind if the sync is not perfect. Usually, I only use Snapcast for music; with video, I use passthrough. But sometimes, I want to put something playing in the background, and I'm not paying much attention to the video. It would be nice if they were somewhat in sync, but perfection is secondary.
