Difference between factory and base and inverted lights

Hi,

I almost got my setup working with the first test. I am running HyperHDR with Piccap on my LG webOS tv with a serial connection to an ESP-S2 Lolin mini with a multisegment setup, with currently only a divided ledstrip at the bottom of the tv. I forked and compiled my own platform.ini with the following settings:

I got 2 problems with this.

1. Only the factory .bin file works with the HyperHDR instance. When using the base file it cannot find the esp32 device as seen in the logs.

2. Both the led segments are working and are receiving data, but both the segments seem to be inverted. I got the wiring the same as the guide. See attachment

1 I tested the standard firmware version (non-factory from your fork) and it works fine. However, this requires the presence of a standard boot loader on the esp device. If the device came new, it is not always present, although it is usually uploaded. If you uploaded the factory version and it works, then the bootloader is already correct. I think you are using esptool.py since you managed to upload the factory version of firmware. So maybe you made a mistake in the address (0x10000 for non-factory, not 0x0 or 0x1000 as it happened in previous cases reported here and that leads to damage of the bootloader)?
2 I suspect a misconfiguration of the HyperHDR LED strip geometry. If you can, please upload a backup copy of the HyperHDR configuration you are testing (json from the "general" tab) and mark in the screenshot which segment is connected to DSECOND_SEGMENT_DATA_PIN (4)

How can I check if a bootloader is installed, and if not, can I install the bootloader?

Which screenshot do you mean? From the pictures I posted the strip on the right is connected to DSECOND_SEGMENT_DATA_PIN (4)

1 If you the uploaded factory version of the firmware and it'w working then the bootloader is on its place: if you want then you can flash non-factory now again and it should work now too. BUT DO NOT CLEAN THE FLASH WITH ERASE_FLASH because it will remove it again.

Nice it seems to work! I flashed the base image over the factory image. I also had to reverse the direction of the LED's and it is now working properly it seems. I didn't interpret it from the guide that I had to flash it like this. I got 2 remaining questions:

1. What is the difference between the factory and base and what is the benefit of the base image?
2. For the esp32-s2 lolin mini I can increase the baudrate to 4000000? So the response time will be faster?

1 The only difference is bootloader. Usually you do not need factory version and it should be used only for the recovery procedure when the bootloader is missing or it's damaged by erasing or uploading standard firmware at wrong (lower) address.
2 Check the benchmark as described in the tutorial here or on the blog. Usually CDC (used by S2 Mini) should use highest speed so no need to increase it manually but it may depend on the system driver implementation.

Hi Awa, tonight I added two segments of the ledstrips on the sides of the tv. When adding the leds on both sides in HyperHDR I ran into the next problem. It seems that when I configure more than 86 leds, the device gets disconnected as seen on the tv and afterwars it says its connected again, but the leds don't get any signal so they freeze on the last state. It only works again when I set the leds to 86 total en reboot the tv. Hope you can help me with this as I have no clue what it could be..

So am I ;) Without recompiling and uploading new HyperSerialESP32 firmware for the correct, actual number of LEDs in the equal segments you are going into uncharted territory and forcing the firmware to work outside its projected specification.

How many leds are you using bro? How many leds segments 1 and segments 2?
I am using S2 Mini Lolin too, and intend to make 150leds + 150 leds (reversed) for my TV. But waiting for Level Shifter get shipped :(
