Add support for Apple Silicon [Blocked by the upstream]

When trying to install Haxe through asdf on an M1 Mac:
asdf install haxe 4.2.1

I get the following error:
\e[31mFail:\e[m Unsupported architecture

Am I invoking the command wrongly or are we missing binaries here?

The Haxe team has not yet released release assets for the Apple Silicon. We can support them once they publish them, but there is nothing else we can do.

@smorimoto I understand. Can we maybe keep this issue open to track progress and also make it visible to other people who might run into the same issue? Maybe we can also link it to an issue in the Haxe repo.

Thank you :) I totally understand that we might be blocked here for a while, I am just in favour to have issues in place that allow us to track progress. Then I can subscribe to them and can be informed once a fix is in place :)

• A. per [ci] Build macOS universal binaries HaxeFoundation/haxe#11572, and as I verified, nightlies off the development branch on https://build.haxe.org/builds/haxe/mac/ have universal bins

  • (but it appears that e.g. the 4.3_bugfix branch from which 4.3.4 was tagged - and its last effectively identical artifact https://build.haxe.org/builds/haxe/mac/haxe_2024-03-04_4.3_bugfix_dc1a43d.tar.gz remaine(d) arm64 only )

• B. homebrew has arm64 "bottles" (binary packages) for each of the last 3 macOSes¹ - (idk if they meaningfully differ). Comparing this to the official release artifacts:

  1. everything is under haxe/4.3.4/ (as the intended extract target is a homebrew "Cellar"), but to that I say, tar -x --strip-component=2
  2. still, stripped down past that its differing from the haxe.org tarball by doing ~FSH:
     • haxe and haxelib are under bin;
     • std is under lib/haxe/
  3. the 3 txt files are dropped (though the README.md is included)
  4. At least on sanoma its bringing along a libexec with a shell-quoting perl script and related CPAN modules (possibly expected by std for some targets? or possibly just left over from the build process)
