Does ApexCharts support server-side zooming? I.e. fetch more precise data when the user zooms? #4401

Suppose I am showing a year or many years worth of data. Due to the very large length of time, I will time-bucket all of my data to a precision of probably one month.
But when the user zooms in on a small timescale, such as a month or a week, then I will want to show them much more precise data, such as hourly. I would need to fetch more precise data from my server for the given time range that the user has zoomed into.
I'm using the React library for ApexCharts but I was wondering if this sort of thing is easy to achieve with Apex or if anyone has done it?
Looking at the documentation, I can see that there is a callback for when the user zooms, but how would I keep my existing state and zoom level? If I fetch the new more precise data, then I would my current dataset and zoom level, wouldn't I? It's almost like I need a "temporary" dataset when the user zooms in, but still allow them to return home to the original zoom and original dataset.
