Hello @stdedos! We chose to have the functionality as a plugin instead of as part of the application itself. Would you have preferred it to be part of the application itself?

Idk - probably I am not the majority here, but I don't like applications doing "magics" to alter my environment behind my back.

Especially with "still hot" subjects such as AI.

... I'd even like to select when I install updates, but I guess going for the extension path does not give me that option (but it is necessary for interoperability reasons - so I cannot back out)

I'd argue that first party logic doesn't fall under the category of magic altering your environment behind your back (we introduce lots of new features in Altair every now and then which by definition will change your environment) but I understand how this being a first party "plugin" can be misconstrued as being otherwise.

In the next version, we'll keep the AI plugin auto install to the dismissible banner in the UI.

Force-feeding me AI features, which might involve sending "magic data" behind my back does fall, I'd argue.

It can be even "unacceptable" by some (definitely me).

To be clear, you have to use the feature for any data to be sent. It doesn't just send data anywhere.

I have no reason to doubt your statement.

However, given how easy it could be for data to leak, or some services imposing "extra ToS" for AI usage, or, or, or ... - I much rather err on the cautious side.
