"ERROR: Unable to list devices for connection" and "PC/SC" warning in ykman #355

  • YubiKey Manager version: YubiKey Manager (ykman) version: 5.0.1
  • How was it installed?: Downloaded yubikey-manager-qt-1.2.5-win64.exe from yubico.com.
  • Operating system and version: Windows 11 Version 22H2 (Build 22621.2861)
  • YubiKey model and version: Blue Security Key NFC USB-A Firmware v. 5.4.3.
  • Bug description summary:

Steps to reproduce

  1. Insert security key into USB port.
  2. Open elevated command prompt.
  3. Execute ykman list (or other ykman commands).

Expected result

CLI commands should execute without errors or warnings.

Actual results

Every ykman command output is preceded by the following warning:

WARNING: PC/SC not available. Smart card (CCID) protocols will not function.

In addition, the ykman list command produces an error:

ERROR: Unable to list devices for connection

Other info

Below the warnings and error messages, the expected command output is displayed:

probably it is because you are conected through RDP.

I can also confirm that the reported behavior persists in ykman version 5.5.0 (under Windows 23H2).
