display not turned off when lid is closed

intended behavior is that it does turn off
using exo shell

Doesn't sound like a Niri problem; what's the value of LidSwitch in /etc/systemd/logind.conf?

Couldn't reproduce the issue, gonna need a bit more information than that. Can you confirm that:

1. You do NOT have an external monitor plugged in to your laptop.
2. You have HandleLidSwitch=suspend in your logind.conf, or that the HandleLidSwitch line is commented out.
3. Your laptop is not plugged in, or that HandleLidSwitchExternalPower=suspend is set or commented out.

If you've changed the value of these recently, make sure to run sudo systemctl kill -s HUP systemd-logind.

Does the display turn off if you run systemctl suspend manually?

@ToxicMushroom you are right , i just want the display off while i have it conected to an external monitor
@ArchWand even with ext monitor unplugged still does not turn off , as for logind i think i have the right file edited and i restarted the service after editing

As a workaround you can use kanshi to create a profile for when you connect a monitor that switches your display off.

Not sure about the closing laptop issue, I sometimes have it happen to me too, but I probably forgot to configure it.
