Whenever I to boot the game I get this mysterious load error that I cant decipher.

Patchouli does not have a 1.20.4 release for Forge. Either downgrade to 1.20.1, or use NeoForge. 1.20.1 mods are very likely not compatible to 1.20.2 or later Minecraft versions. (Blame Mojang.)
