Description
Adding a new minigame to the AstroBalance project.
Level Description
Mission Star Seek
Therapeutic Goal
Saccadic substitution – eye then head alignment.
Core Mechanics
Star appears, child looks then moves head to lock. Each lock earns a
point.
Long Description
In saccadic substitution, the child learns to make a fast eye movement (saccade) toward a new visual target, followed by a slower, compensatory head movement to align vision with that target. Target appears – (A glowing star appears peripherally (left, right, up, down)) which is a stimulus for saccade initiation. The child first looks at the new star (saccade). Tobii tracker detects initial eye shift. Child then moves their head toward the star (slower movement – head position
indicated by the green target lock). When both gaze and head align with the target, the star “locks on” for 1s and glows brightly. This earns 1 point. The sequence continues. Game is played for 2 minutes, total score displayed at the end.
Adaptive Difficulty
If succeeds then star frequency increases with shorter lock time required
Rewards
Points, star dust/confetti with total score. They are then taken to
a report that displays badges earned.
