Important Question #253

Therefore. Have you completely abandoned demoncrawl? Me and the rest of the demoncrawl community are desperate for any form of communication, its been over a year. Sorry-not-sorry for vandalizing your new project, but if you can't handle updating demoncrawl anymore just say so, or let someone else take over development. please? |

It’s really frustrating not getting any updates for well over a year (compounded with the number of bugs the game has) with no warning whatsoever. If the game is truly abandoned, just release it open-source or declare the game finished. The community for this game deserves closure at the very least. |

Yeah I think I speak for the entire community when I say that it is completely okay if development ends, we would just like to hear something from the developer so we can get closure. If you would like to declare the game as abandoned, that is fine. In that case, it would be really nice if we could get some sort of access to the game's source code. However, it is your game so you don't have to share it. But allowing us access to the source code allows us to continue development and save DemonCrawl's future. I understand that you may be worried that releasing the game as open-source could reduce sales, so as great for us that would be, you may not want to do that. You could instead share the code with a trusted member in the community (could be Levi, a moderator, or anyone else you entrust the source code to). We could then simply contact that person when we want to know anything about the game's code. I don't think you should be worried about losing money from releasing the game open-source though. The game as it is now is buggy and in some aspects incomplete. I feel like if we are able to write more updates we could all work together to perfect the game which would get more attention to the game. We could set up some system so you would still get rewarded for all your hard work. But most importantly, leaving the game without ever saying goodbye means you don't get closure either. I feel like it would be a lot better for the community but also for you if you make a decision on your part in DemonCrawl's future, whatever that decision may be. We hope to hear from you soon. |

Hi @LeEpicHBM, @romantuerki, and @elmarhoppieland, While there are future plans for DemonCrawl, it is currently on the backburner for both personal and financial reasons. DemonCrawl started as a passion project over 10 years ago. I was very blessed to see modest success from the game, but it was not designed with a long-term monetization model in mind (e.g. battle passes, microtransactions, and so on.) Suffice it to say, I had to do the prudent thing and explore other means of income outside of Therefore Games. I'm still getting my ducks in a row so to speak, and I appreciate your patience and understanding. When I'm ready to give DemonCrawl the attention it deserves, I will make an official announcement. I hope, at the very least, this provides some reassurance that the project isn't officially abandoned. |
