fresh install is broken #3651

Describe the bug
git clone then it's unusable, I spend like 20mn every year, figuring out how to get it working

To Reproduce
Steps to reproduce the behavior:

git clone elfinder
ln -s elfinder.src.html index.html
still does not work
must dig in various files for hours

Expected behavior
access index.html and it works

Desktop (please complete the following information):

OS: linux
Browser ff/chrome
Version latest

Additional context
it would be nice that the project be maintained. is it maintained?
i am moving away atm, thank you
