However, tailscale ping hostname works.

I've read everything on the internet but I don't quite understand what is needed to get the UDM Pro able to resolve tailnet hosts and ping them.

The ideal goal: other devices on my lan (without having tailscale installed) can resolve any tailnet host, through the dream machine.

What am I doing wrong?

I'm having the same issue.

All of the devices on my tailscale network are able to ping and interact with all of the devices on my local network (those not on the tailscale network). I can even use the UDM-Pro as an exit node while not at home and it all works as expected.

What does not work is that the UDM-Pro itself can not reach nodes on my tailscale network.

root@UDM-Pro:~# /usr/bin/ubnt-device-info firmware_detail
3.1.1

What works

  • inbound connectivity from any tailscale device to the local network (10.0.0.0/24)
  • inbound connectivity from any tailscale to the UDM-Pro tailscale adderss
  • tailscale ping hostname from the UDM-Pro to any device on my tailscale network

What doesn't work

  • Any outbound connectivity from the UDM-Pro to the tailscale network, either directly or from a device on my local network\

EDIT 1: Apparently I didn't fully read the README.md which clearly states that manual changes are required to get this functionality to work.

EDIT 2: I got it working after following #51
