apply attribute modifier to slot 0 of {_p}'s inventory:
                    attribute: attack damage #skjson value "attribute" from {_json} parsed as attribute type
                    slot: hand_slot_group

                    amount: 4#skjson value "amount" from {_json} parsed as number

That said, Skript doesn't always play nicely with the Slot type, I dont know why.
So what you can do is:

• set a variable to the slot
• apply modifier to variable
• set slot back to var
