some styles get changed when loaded in ckeditor

HTML tables in articles get converted to figures when loaded in ckeditor. this results in changes to border styles.
i have also seen an instance of ckeditor replacing 1 span with 2 spans, resulting in as color attribute on an empty span and missing color attribute on the text span containing the text.
at the moment i have no viable ideas for fixing this general issue
