Highlights:

• Set up data storage infrastructure and allocated backend compute resources to host the new VegBank system, including development and production environments.
• Deployed the latest stable and security-patched version of the database management software system to the development environment.
• Developed and deployed a configurable database migration framework for applying schema updates as needed both for completing the system upgrade, and for accommodating future schema changes in a flexible and robust manner.
• Coded and tested database migration steps to make the original VegBank schema compatible with the new database system, and to automate loading of all existing VegBank data onto the new platform.
• Initiated REST API design iterations to flesh out user stories and frame API requirements, and documented the base cases for new data insertion.
• Created new code repository and initial scaffolding for the R client package (“vegbankr”).
• Initiated internal design discussions around core workflows for preparing, uploading, and retrieving VegBank data using the R client.
• Developed initial as hoc scripts for loading sample VegCAMP plot data into R, interrogating the schema, and conducting a preliminary assessment of compatibility with VegBank.

Issues:

• Create process to migrate existing VegBank DB to new Postgres instance #29 (completed in Q3)
• Deploy Postgres to K8s using Helm chart #33 (initiated in Q3)
• Storage Service and API #8 (initiated in Q3)
