ForceUpdate and Child object(s)

We have an older application that needs forceUpdate.
It works fine for the root object but when we call child objects with

   DataPortal.UpdateChild(.....);

our 'Insert' Dal is called.

Edit: Even in forceUpdate if there is a new child object we would like to 'Insert' that in the DB : )

I am implementing something similar to Save with forceUpdate from Csla in my child objects. Wish me luck : )

We got it working but when a child object is removed from a child collection. The child object is not deleting. So we specifically modified the code (mentioned above) to look for IsDeleted property of the child and if true we are marking it as old and deleted but still no luck : )
