ℹ️ About the Insomnia updates that will happen in the next few months.

Hi everyone 👋 You may have noticed that in the last few months we made some changes in the application that may introduce unwanted regressions in the usability of the product.

These regressions are happening because we are taking ownership of areas of the product that needed to be improved dramatically, and these changes may sometimes introduce unwanted effects because of the sheer complexity of the codebase that we are improving.

As such we have to make these changes to get better:

• The number of regressions will reduce dramatically in the coming months as we complete our work.
• We are very responsive to issues on this repository, and we would rather make a quick patch release to fix those unwanted regressions rather than being blocked.
• The performance and feature set of Insomnia will dramatically improve throughout 2024 as soon as we have completed this rough patch of work.

By unblocking this work, we will be able to work in short order on some of the most requested capabilities that you have asked:

• Introducing pre-request scripts into the application. (In progress)
• Introducing per-request variables. (Shipped in 8.6.x)
• Introducing support for multiple tabs.
• Being able to re-use authentications and environments across multiple collections.
• Introducing a vast framework for API testing. (In progress)
• Work on performance improvements to accelerate the application by 50% across all areas.(Main performance improvements have shipped)
• And more.

I wanted to thank everyone for the patience, with a strong commitment to making all of this better. Your issues on GitHub are also important to identify these regressions, so please keep them coming and we will include them in the next patch releases.

We just shipped v8.4.4 with many performance improvements compared to v8.4.2 🏎 and we fixed some long lasting bugs like #1937 and #6387 among those.

No, I was using 8.x for a while.

I discovered the problem now. It was required to manually move the data in this panel:

After selecting the organization and hitting the "Move" button, it appeared again. But this is something that must be better documented, or automatically loaded. It was really bad to "lose" my configuration after the update.

Could it be that you were you logged in with another account before the update?
Having your projects appear in the untracked projects means that they were under a different organization before that your current account doesn't have access to.

That could be the case, but it would be pretty weird. As far as I know I have only 1 account.

We are very responsive to issues on this repository, and we would rather make a quick patch release to fix those unwanted regressions rather than being blocked.

For example, this regression is open since August 16th #6301 and there is still no fix.
This one #5851 is open since March and also no fix yet.

Hi @relgames, as usual it's a game of prioritization. Let's take a look at those two, and see if we can fix them in our upcoming December release.

We couldn't make it in December, but these two issues are prioritized for the January release.

These two issues have been resolved and it is currently available in 8.5.2 beta, it will be GA at the next GA release (v8.5.2).

We have shipped 8.5.x that fixes dated issues, notably we have rewritten the "Environment" section which should behave a lot better and we have fixed issues like #2255 and we have added a new footer section to notify the user of untracked projects that may appear to be missing, but are still on the computer but not associated to an organization:

Jan-March will be a very busy time for Insomnia:

• Iterating the top 10 requests in the issues and closing them.
• Pre-request scripting.
• Native API mocking.
• Start working on multiple-tabs.
• Making E2EE passphrases optional (but still available if the user wants them).
• And a lot more.

A new document finder is shipping in the next version of Insomnia (CMD+P). It is available today in 8.5.2 beta and it works from within a collection, before GA we are planning to make it work anywhere and also will be able to search across all organizations.

We just shipped path parameters and this week we will also simplify how to value environment variables when it's missing.

In the meantime we are working on adding support for pre-request scripts.

Insomnia 9.0 GA has been released today with pre-request scripting, improved offline collaboration, native API mocking and more.

I have updated to 9.0.0, and I immediately have two complaints:

• Request list now have a minimal width set too wide - I cannot shrink it as far as I want. It is double the width I need, and I want that space for other two sections. If I attempt to shrink, the whole element gets hidden which is not what I want
• The line number in response preview takes constant size that would be enough for like 7+ digit numbers but my responses rarely need that much. My expectation is for line number to take only space needed. If response is only triple digit - shrink the line count element.

I can create the issues if needed for better tracking. I have complaint about old behavior as well: I want last view to be opened on launch: If i was in a collection, I want to be brought there immediately after launch
