  1. Login to Azure Lab Services

  2. If the virtual machine is not started, click the start bubble.

  3. Once started, click the computer icon to get connection information.

  4. Select Connect via SSH

  5. Click copy to copy the ssh connection information.

  6. Install X2Go client on your local computer. Install X2Go

  7. Follow the instructions on the website for your operating system.

  8. Open X2Go and start a new session with Session, New Session.

  9. Change the session name to what you prefer, example: HVOC

  10. All the info you need is in the copied ssh connection information.

    then:

    • The host is the computer name after the '@': lab-d7054573-e093-4183-9a64-d2be946daa13.southcentralus.cloudapp.azure.com
    • The login is the name immediately before the '@': sysops
    • The SSH port is the number after the '-p' flag: 5001
  11. Change the session type to XFCE

  12. Click OK

  13. Click on your new session and you will be propmted for a password.

  14. Type in the password and select OK.

  15. Select Yes.

  16. Select Yes.


NOTE! If it took you awhile (more than 5-10 minutes) to work through the instructions above, you will need to go back to steps 1) and 2) to make sure your VM is running.

Once you know your VM is running you can use X2Go to connect to it.
