When you have a translation with umlauts (ä, ö, and ü), ß (lowercase) ẞ (uppercase), ... the search form is case-sensitive. I suppose (but I didn't check it) that this happens with another non-English letters.
If you search for the "Über" word, you will find it only in uppercase.
If you search for the "über" word, you will find it only in lowercase.
To test this, I have used the Akismet' German translation, available here.
