Version: FPP 8.4.1

Describe the bug and Steps to reproduce:
I have been having problems with Sancloud BBE's when paired with Scott Hansen's BBB16v2. I have not found anything in the logs because the crash results in a the BBE hanging (status LED's are static). For a while the issue was mostly occurring when the show started. Sometime into playing a sequence the BBE would hang. In more recent testing the BBE does not complete the boot before it hangs.

I've tried two different Sancloud BBE's.

I have re-imaged the SD card.

I noticed in the release notes for 8.4 some changes were made to fix some problems with the BBE. I wonder if this is related?

Not sure if its related but I found the following error in the systemd journal:

Aug 07 11:36:03 FPP-Remote-5 kernel: davinci-mcasp 48038000.mcasp: Error applying setting, reverse things back

When I compared to the journal of a BBB running on a Kulp K8 this error does not occur. I also compared to the journal of a BBB running on a BBB16v2 and there is no error. So, it appears to be related to the Sancloud BBE.

@sslupsky does this problem continue if you remove the BBB16v2 cape? Eg could this be some sort of power problem?

@darylc I recall it was crashing when it was not installed in the cape but I do not recall if the time to crash was longer or shorter.

At the moment I am uncertain it is a power problem. I've worked with it using different power supplies (Meanwell 5A and a Meanwell LRS-350-5 60A) and experienced the same crash. As I recall the problem is more frequent when a Soundblaster Play adapter is plugged in so I cannot rule out a power issue.

I've been running some tests and though it still crashes it is taking quite a while to crash when sitting idle. Current uptime is 18 days since the last crash. As I recall, when I start queuing sequences time to crash duration is quite short. I think the reason for the long uptime is that my show has not run since Dec 31. Though it still does crash. Note, there are no pixels connected to the controller.

Can you try an older version to see if you have the same problem? None of us have a Sancloud BB as far as I am aware, so not sure we can help?
