So, the only thing the latest printer firmwares on the MFC-L3770CDW's seem to do is lock out more and more non-Brother branded toner cartridges (Brother wants to sell you hugely marked up toner cartridges).

It would be nice to be able to use this to get PREVIOUS firmware releases and upload those to the printer instead so you can back out an accidental "upgrade", which is really just a firmware update that prevents more non-brother cartridges from working.

So what is/ actually the "safest" Firmware version/s without being locked out of third-party toner cartages? I'm currently on Version S with 1.59.

there is no safe version but you should stay their when you are going to buy toner in future they will be already compatible i suggest you blocking the printer from accessing the internet.

You posted the file for download from the MEGA website but it doesn't work, can someone upload the file again please?

Here is a link ⇒ https://mega.nz/file/M6gkgQKY#ZeGGNVY0DooiVYSWnEo1DYbyhSJyFBNuYpWLxU-GyJ8 (from https://www.reddit.com/r/printers/comments/w60687/comment/jntgvnr)

It contains many firmware versions for MFC-L3730CDN (MAIN + SUB) which also should work for MFC-L3710CW, MFC-L3750CDW and MFC-L3770CDW.

Note: I did not try as I do not have this printer, but list of FW filenames per printer model is available here => https://secure.brother.de/portal/inc_service/faqs/content.cfm?faq_id=1779&kind=pdf

For anyone stumbling upon this while Googling how to downgrade.
Mega link from one of reddit threads with guide and firmwares for different models:
https://mega.nz/folder/gjgiXA4Z#VHJqPNUx8wgcPYyfq44zag

Also don't revert to version older than than your current Stub1. Or you can try, but features may break.
Check Firmware Update Tool -> Update History on Brother page to see what versions went together.
I'm on D00L6U firmware and I had ZC firmware version with Sub1 1.12.

15/02/2018 Main: J / Sub1: 1.07
07/03/2019 Main: M / Sub1: 1.08
19/05/2022 Main: Y / Sub1: 1.12
18/04/2024 Main: ZC / Sub1: 1.12

Tried included in mega version J, M - managed do downgrade, but since there wasn't needed sub version - I was left on 1.12 and scanning feature didn't work. Randomly tried all letters in URL, found oldest matching version Y - works perfectly fine.
Not sure how to guess URL for previous Sub1 versions, so I'm gonna stay with 2022 version for now.

The reason there is no "SUB1" in the folder is that, at the time I was looking, I couldn't find a URL for SUB1. Usually, I include it for most printers if it's mentioned on the website. However, I can't remember exactly what happened, but after spending many hours searching, I eventually gave up.

Now, after seeing your post, I decided to try again. The funny thing is that after an hour of searching, I noticed something interesting.

For the DCP-L2530DW and MFC-L2710DW, I was most likely only looking at the 2710DW because it's well-known in its category. I could easily find photos online showing a serial number and how the firmware is represented. However, these two printers don’t mention anything about SUB1 on the site.

Then, I saw your post about SUB1 and discovered that the DCP-L2550DN has SUB1 and the same main firmware. I found the URL for SUB1, but only the latest version (1.13) is available—it hasn’t been released yet, and the older versions have been removed from the server.

For example, the URL http://update-akamai.brother.co.jp/CS/D00L6W_G.djf points to firmware 1.11, which I found in this GitHub issue. The latest version, 1.13, is available at https://update-akamai.brother.co.jp/CS/D00L6W_J.djf.

Interestingly, the 2750 model has a different main firmware but shares the same SUB1. you can ask the guy from the other post if someone has the 1.11 saved somewhere

I'm also using DCP-L2550DN 😄 And I just noticed I made a mistake in my main post - I said I was on 1.12... Blindly copy/pasted from patch history and didn't even verify from my screenshots. Actually I was/am on 1.13 (which firmware update history page doesn't even list). And can verify that 1.13 works with Y main firmware, with earlier ones - scanner breaks.
Sad that they've removed from server, for now I'll stay with Y for main and 1.13 Stub1 combo. At least until I'll notice that something doesn't work as should, but seems like everything is fine.
