We should consider whether the surface atmospheric boundary layer scheme (i.e. calculation of surface turbulent fluxes) is set up the way we want, for all model components.

I've added an explanation of the ACCESS-OM3 atm-ice, ice-ocean and atm-ocean surface stress calculation in the wiki here (this follows a zulip discussion here, but further discussion should migrate to this issue). Turbulent fluxes of heat and humidity should also be documented in the wiki when somebody has a spare moment or three.

Most wave modelling seems to be moving to use the COARE algorithm for surface heat fluxes

e.g. https://www.pmel.noaa.gov/ocs/flux-documentation

This is implemented / developed for ocean models (not sure about MOM6) but not for CICE/Icepack

It is an available option in CMEPS/cesm. But are you saying we can't use that option with CICE?

I didn't really follow the details, but if we wanted to try it, I think something that Icepack does with surface fluxes may be inconsistent with COARE (although functional). Andrew Roberts at LANL is the person to contact.
