Vertical (rotated) text

I want to print vertical text (from bottom to top). I see two ways to do it:

1. sprite & rotate
2. make static image and display it instead of text.
   Of course first way is more versatile. I wonder which way consume more memory and cpu time...

Or maybe there is even better way to do it?
