No sound drivers detected in the game THE DIG.

Hello Andreas Grech,
I'm trying to play the game the dig, and while the sound setup test sounds fine, when I try to detect the drivers, a message comes up saying that the sound card is not compatible. The options in the test where the sound is heard are SoundBlaster 2 and SoundBlaster Pro. What could be wrong?

Don't know. Please try the newest v1.7 preliminary version - there's a fix that improves SB detection.

Just tried the demo version - no problem with sound or music...

With version 1.7 the option "SB 16/AWE 32/SB 32" worked even though there was no sound test option, it installed the drivers. The other options SoundBlaster 2 & SoundBlaster Pro, even though there was sound in the sound setup test when I detected, I got the message "The sound card driver you have selected in NOT recommended for use with your sound card. Please choose another driver".
I have music and voice in the game with the above option ("SB 16/AWE 32/SB 32")

Autodetecting a SB Pro doesn't work - most likely a timing problem. Alternatively, one can enter the values manually. I tried, but noticed that the speech was too "slow" - the sample rate calculation for SB Pro differs a bit from the rest...

I tested the game via a virtual machine, where the drivers for both SoundBlaster 2 & SoundBlaster Pro were installed. I copied each IMUSE.INI separately to C:\DIG where VSBHDA.EXE recognized the drivers from both and played with music and voice normally. Incidentally, the .ini from Soundblaster2 & Soundblaster Pro are identical, I checked them with HexEditor.

Does it also play normally if you set the type of the BLASTER variable to 4 (BLASTER=A220 I5 D1 T4)? The game seems to use DSP command 0x90 ( 8-bit HighSpeed AutoInit ) if SB Pro or SB 2 is selected. VSBHDA supports this command even if running as a SB16, while a real SB16 allegedly doesn't know it.

EDIT: tested on a real SB 16: DSP cmd 0x90 works fine with that card.
