"Found No Valid Display Adapter"

Heyo, I've been trying to install this for a while now and coming across this common issue of this "Found No Valid Display Adapter" error. The only "solution" I've found is using Dgvoodoo2 to manually select the display adapter, but that comes with a slew of issues on it's own, and I'd prefer to figure this out without any external software.

Very weird. What version of Windows are you using? Any non-standard stuff going on with this machine? I've never actually seen this error before.

Windows 11. Makes sense you’ve never heard of it, there’s like 10 total results on google.

I've never actually used Nestopia on Windows 11. I wonder if it's just a problem with this codebase being ancient, the win32 port has been largely unmodified since I took it over many years ago. It could be that time has finally caught up with a codebase made for Windows 98/2000. If that is the case, then I knew this day would eventually come, and I've been trying to get a modern cross-platform port built for that very reason. The FLTK port is superior unless you want some of the obscure bells and whistles in the win32 port, and it does build/run on Windows if you have an MSYS2 environment set up.

I think the error is related to the D3D8 code being unable to bring up a context on a modern GPU on Windows 11 or something. I'd have to find a way to reproduce the problem to really know.

Only reason I find that unlikely is just because I find it hard to believe that out of all the people who downloaded Nestopia, none of them used Win11, but I dont know anything :P

Yeah, you're probably right. I do know there are people using Nestopia on machines running Windows 98/2000 to this day, where they might have it set up just for emulation and nothing else. There is probably someone on every possible version of Windows using it.

I wonder if it has to do with your drivers, have you tried updating/reinstalling them?

I have. I can try updating my Card drivers but they’ve caused some huge problems in the past so i dunno
